How to Be Confident in Front of the Camera

Friday, Sep. 15th 2017

What does the camera ask of us, as subjects? The camera asks very little of us. The camera says, “Come as you are”. Do not try to be someone else, you are already beautiful and a conqueror, just be you. We may try to be someone that we are not but we are never successful. Maybe we can fool the public but we are still lying to ourselves. It is impossible to be someone else, but the good news is that you are the only person on the planet that can be you and that is all the camera is asking!

No pressure, just peace. The peace of knowing that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and that through our eyes at Kornerbooth, you are enough.

So, are you struggling with confidence when the camera comes your way?
These few simple realizations and tips may just be able to help you out next time!

  • My friend once told me, “If you’re confident, you’re right!” So own it. Own the moment, own the camera and own your body…because, why not?

  • Whether it’s your smile, mouth, skin or awkwardness that is holding you back from being confident…just know that a glowing personality can steal the show and blind anyone from what we think our “flaws” are.

  • Laugh through the pain. Sometimes forcing a laugh with your friends in your photos initially turns into real life, enjoyable laughter. So put on your best attitude and laugh along with the cameraman and your friends.

  • Now, for the dreaded serious face. This is always my worst enemy when it comes to the camera, but I finally conquered it! How you may ask? I put my insecurities to the side and decided to say that how I am made is awesome and I put on the, Tyra Banks coined term of “smize”. Smizing, smiling with your eyes, works for both men and women and allows you to get the desired serious face without looking too angry at the world. Try it out, practice it!

We conquer fears and even bucket lists and to-do lists, but the lens is not something to be conquered. To conquer is to “successfully overcome”. At Kornerbooth, we invite you to see the camera as an opportunity rather than a hurdle, an opportunity to embrace the very best version of yourself. We would love to see you have fun in front of our cameras by yourself or with your friends. We all have those friends who bring out the very best in us because we are comfortable in front of them. Kornerbooth hopes to be that friend and our cameras cannot wait to capture you!
